Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has released an official report which notes that, in 2018, the video game industry in the US of A has earned a record-breaking $43,4 billion in revenue, which is a truly mind-boggling number.

The report in question goes into some detail on how this was attained, and makes it clear that the revenue in question encompasses PC, console, and mobile games, and both sales and microtransactions in whichever form they may come. In short: significant growth has been seen in all areas!

“The impressive economic growth of the industry announced today parallels the growth of the industry in mainstream American culture,” said the acting President and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis. “Interactive entertainment stands today as the most influential form of entertainment in America.”

American players have spent $7.5 billion on hardware, which is 15% more than they did in 2017, while software purchases made for a staggering $35.8 billion; an 18% increase compared to previous year. In total, this has made for an impressive 18% growth in 2018, when put next to 2017 spendings.

These impressive numbers are practically sure to reflect the trends and current spending fads of, say, European customers, as well, and this all just goes to show what a massive industry video games have become.
